Simas is relaunching Xa Xá, a 20-year-old Brazilian brand, which the company says has been enthusiastically received. The traditional items start as a hard candy then become chewy. They are available in four flavors: banana, strawberry, pineapple and berry, with 700g single-flavor bags selling for R$4 and individual pieces for 10 cents. The company says it will soon launch a fifth flavor.

Also from the company are Pip Per Frutas in green apple, grape, pineapple and strawberry. The small, heart-shaped panned candies pack in 500g bags that sell for R$4.50.

Simas’ Super Cherry pops are filled with bubble gum and weigh 30g. The company’s Super Sam pops come in green apple, cherry, grape, orange and blue raspberry. Both pack in 750g bags that sell for R$5 and can be sold individually for between 40 and 50 cents.

In the snack sector, Santa Helena introduced Crokissimo coated peanuts, which are processed differently than traditional Japanese peanuts using a thicker, softer coating. They come in barbeque, cheese, Mexican pepper and onion/salsa and sell in 150g bags for R$3 and in 20g and 40g bags.

Under the Amendu’s Prime brand, the company is producing seasonal dry roasted peanuts in 200g bags that hold 24 packs. Also available are salt and garlic, and whiskey and garlic salted, peeled and unpeeled peanuts.

Trofeu, from Santa Helena, are wheat crackers in six flavors, the newest being mustard. Also, new Pacoquita peanut snacks are sweetened with Splenda and the packaging has updated graphics of the company’s peanut character.

A new diet product from the company is Sabor & Equilibrio, which are brittle bars made of oats, peanuts, linseed, sesame seed, omega 6 and wheat germ. The bars sell for 80 cents.

Ice Kiss is part of a promotional effort from Cory. The wrappers of the lime and pineapple hard candies are printed with words that can be sent via text to win prizes including iPods and ringtones. They come in 10-piece sticks weighing 36g.

Lilith brand chewy candy covered in chocolatey coating comes in green apple and raspberry. The 13g count goods sell for 25 cents. Mini versions of the company’s Palitas, which are compound-covered cookie sticks, now come in 55g bags.

Chocolates Garoto S.A. produces 10 million pieces of its signature Serenata chocolate-enrobed wafer bon bons each day, but growing overall domestic demand has spurred investment in another production line. Meanwhile, under its Talento brand, the company is launching hazelnuts covered in milk chocolate and almonds covered in 55% dark chocolate. They come in 75g easy-open packs and sell for R$4.

The company noted that current fluctuations in the U.S. dollar means it can only quote export pricing 90 days out. However, it predicts the currency volatility will subside in 2010.
