New Company Makes Pretzels

Akron, OH —Yogurt- and chocolate-enrobed and decorated snack pretzels are available from American Confection Co., a new company formed by a partnership between Hickory Harvest Foods, Inc. and the Fresh Roasted Almond Co. Brad Tapp, former president and CEO of Tropical Fruit & Nut Co, now heads the company.

Hickory Harvest President Joe Swiatkowski explains: “Hickory Harvest and Fresh Roasted Almond already use a lot of yogurt and pretzels, and a number of small companies that used to do enrobing have gone out of business. Forming American Confection will allow us to manufacture more products and sell through our combined universe of distributors and vendors.”

Swiatkowski anticipates that within a year the new company will expand production to include panned products, such as raisins and nuts.

Akron-based Hickory Harvest Foods manufactures packaged and bulk trail mixes, dried fruit, nuts, organic food, and candies. Fresh Roasted Almond Co. is headquartered in Detroit and produces 33 varieties of dry-roasted and flavored nuts.
