Confectonery Sales Grow
Washington, DC — Confectionery sales grew in all channels during the 52-week period ending August 12, according to market research company SymphonyIRI Group, Inc. Leading the category was c-store sales, which have risen 6.3 percent.
The report indicates the growth came from incremental price increases, as unit sales have remained relatively flat or have fallen slightly across all channels. This suggests that consumers are most likely to purchase confections as part of a deal or promotion, according to the NCA.
Most confectionery sub-categories are experiencing growth. The most recent 12-week unit sales trends in FDMx channels show 2.2 percent growth in chocolate, 1.7 percent growth for non-chocolates and a 6.1 percent loss for gum.
