Gluten-Free Diets Don’t Help Weight Loss
Phoenix — A gluten-free diet has no weight loss benefit for the average, healthy adult and in some cases might cause weight gain because of added fats in some gluten-free products, according to an Arizona State University report.
Researcher Glenn Gaesser says although a gluten-free diet is the only treatment for celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, gluten might provide benefits for the heart, digestive and immune systems.
Gaesser explains: “While the gluten-free diet is an important medical treatment, far too many Americans are following the diet for reasons that simply do not make sense.”
