One-Year Farm Bill Vote Expected
Washington, DC — A vote to extend the 2008 Farm Bill for one year is expected Wednesday, August 1, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A longer-term version of the bill was approved in the Senate in June but is considered unlikely to garner approval of the full Congress before the current legislation expires this fall.
The NCA says: “Although another full year under the current sugar program in the 2008 Farm Bill is not ideal, it is better than a five-year extension and also better than the House sending the bill straight to conference with the Senate without any vote by the full House.”
