Candy School Celebrates 50 Years
Madison, WI — A half-century of Candy School existence was celebrated on July 21 by 80 confectionery industry individuals at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
An alumni reunion, tour of the building and reception all took place during the event that marked the retirement of former school Director Joachim von Elbe, who also spoke on the school's beginning. The candy technology school was developed by the NCA in 1962 and more than 1,300 individuals, from line workers to business owners, have attended.
The Confectionery Education Advisory Board, which includes NCA, RCI, AACT and PMCA members, will continue to work with Richard Hartel, current Candy School director, and CEAB is coordinating a school fund-raiser taking place later this year.
