Reb C Sweetness Gets GRAS
Ewing, NJ — Natural sweetener enhancer RP44, also called Reb C, has been given GRAS from the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association, administered according to the provisions of the FDA, clearing it for use in foods.
The GRAS approval allows the flavoring to be used in confectionery, dairy and yogurt, as well as in baked goods and cereals, according to International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.
Redpoint Bio Corp. licensed the sweetness enhancer, derived from the stevia plant, to IFF in June 2010.
