Quincy, MA &mdash: Consumers who use retailers’ handheld devices to scan items as they shop are said to spend an average of $7 more per trip, according to results from the ScanIt program at Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Inc.
Implemented this year in more than half of its 560 grocery locations, the device is tied into an in-store network that includes other shopper apps for coupons and placing deli and bakery orders ahead of pick-up.
The app, which also offers shoppers personalized coupons based on their in-store purchases and keeps a running tally of their total, is run with hardware from Motorola Corp. and software from Modiv Media, the company says.
