Ghirardelli Competition Down To Five

San Leandro, CA — Five finalists remain in Ghirardelli Chocolate Co.’s contest to determine the next Intense Dark chocolate flavor.

A panel of judges selected the top potential flavors: Cherry Bliss, with almonds and sweet dried cherries; Tahitian Treasure, with Tahitian pineapple, coconut and almonds; Moonlight Fantasy, with hazelnuts, figs and cinnamon; Hazelnut Heaven, with roasted hazelnuts and hazelnut liqueur; and Spicy Pecan, with pecans and chili peppers.

Nearly 14,000 contestants submitted a flavor name and recipe idea in an effort to have their bar named the next Intense Dark flavor, which will be produced by Ghirardelli early next year.

Consumers can vote for their favorite flavor at newintensedark.com. The winner, to be announced September 20, will receive a trip for two to San Francisco, a private, behind-the-scenes tour at Ghirardelli, three nights at a spa and $1,000.

Further, some 2,000 random instant win prizes, which include a year’s worth of Intense Dark chocolate, an Intense Dark gift basket, a Bon Appetit fondue pot, and an Intense Dark chocolate bar, will be awarded to voters during the promotion period.
