Dollar Tree Sales Surge
Chesapeake, VA — Dollar Tree, Inc. has reported strong sales for its second quarter ended July 31, 2010, citing heavier traffic and an increase in the average basket size.
Second quarter consolidated net sales rose 12.7 percent to $1.38 billion, compared with $1.22 billion in the same period in 2009. Comparable store sales increased 6.7 percent building on a 6.8 percent increase for the second quarter of 2009.
The company says leading categories included food, party supplies and health and beauty products. During the second quarter, Dollar Tree operated 3,925 stores, opened 56 stores and closed five.
