Cargill Wins Food Science Award

Cobham, UK — Cargill, Inc. has received the 2010 President’s Award from the International Union of Food Science and Technology, which recognizes efforts to advance food science.

The honor also acknowledges the company’s collaboration and leadership in ensuring food safety through education.

“We are extremely proud that our commitment to achieving transparent, harmonized and science-based global food systems has been recognized,“ says Luis Fernandez, head of Cargill’s food technology applications in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The company recently reported net earnings of $691 million in the fiscal 2010 fourth quarter ended May 31, compared with $327 million during the same period the prior year. During the quarter, all five business segments recorded broad increases in earnings, according to a company spokesperson. Fourth-quarter revenues increased 11 percent to $28.1 billion. For the year, the company earned $2.6 billion, down 22 percent compared with $3.33 billion in 2009.
