Callebaut Chocolate Gets Dental Seal

Zurich — Specially formulated Barry Callebaut AG chocolate has been officially “guaranteed safe for teeth,” receiving the Happy Tooth quality seal from Toothfriendly International, a Swiss-based non profit certifier.

Isomaltulose, a natural carbohydrate, is credited in the formulation with resisting decay from oral bacteria and does not cause an increase in acidity in the mouth, according to the company. In addition, isomaltulose is easily digested, Callebaut says, with no accompanying laxative effects.

“Barry Callebaut is the only one to offer a tooth-friendly chocolate for which clinical studies have been conducted and for which dentists’ endorsement is obtained,” explains Chief Innovation Officer Hans Vriens.

The chocolate is not available in the U.S. at this time, the company states.
