USDA Raises Sugar Quota, Wins NCA Applause
Washington, DC — The USDA has increased the Raw Sugar Tariff Rate Quota by 300,000 tons, earning praise for its “responsible” action.
NCA President Larry Graham says: “We believe the USDA has done the responsible thing by raising the quota to help relieve a shortage of domestic sugar that has adversely affected many of our candy and chocolate manufacturing members.”
The increase is the second this year, following a 200,000 raw short ton adjustment in April.
“Further adjustments might still be necessary and we will continue to work with the USDA to make sure they are aware if supplies are insufficient despite the quota increases,” Graham says.
