Northfield, IL — Kraft Foods, Inc. will increase the whole grain content in its leading Nabisco cracker brands, doubling the amount currently used across its portfolio, according to the company.
Through the next three years, some 100 products, including brands such as Wheat Thins, Honey Maid, Premium and Ritz, will have more whole grains. The company says a number of products, including original Wheat Thins and Honey Maid original graham crackers, will be made with 100 percent whole grains.
The recipe change comes as consumers seek to increase their consumption of whole grains, a company spokesperson says, noting it has been developing its flour milling technology and recipes for the modification, and will use whole grain wheat flour in the process.
According to the company, original Wheat Thins will go from having 11 grams of whole grains to 22 grams per serving; Wheat Thins toasted chips will increase from five to 17 grams per serving; and Honey Maid original will increase from five to 20 grams.
