June Retail Sales Decline 0.5 Percent

Washington, DC — Total retail and food services sales for June decreased 0.5 percent from the previous month, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The data indicates adjusted retail and food service dropped $446 million dollars from the previous month, with reported total sales of more than $299 billion.

Grocery stores lost $276 million compared with May, registering more than $43 billion in sales, the Bureau reports.

Though the results show month-to-month losses, the report finds total retail and food service sales are up 4.8 percent compared with the previous year. Excluding motor vehicles, retail and food service sales increased 4.4 percent from the year prior and grocery posted gains of 1.3 percent.
