Dollar Stores Climb Top Retailer List

Washington, DC — Dollar stores have made the biggest gains in the Top 100 Retailers list, while Walmart Stores, Inc.’s low prices kept it on top, according to a report.

The annual STORES magazine Top 100 Retailers list ranks stores by U.S. retail sales. This year, Dollar General Corp. moved up seven spots on 12.8 percent year-on-year revenue growth to reach 28. Family Dollar Stores, Inc. moved up 11 spots to 45 and Dollar Tree, Inc. reached 61, climbing 15 spots.

Walmart retained the top position followed by The Kroger Co., while both Walgreen Co. and Target Corp. climbed two spots each to reach third and fourth place on the rankings, according to the results.

Holding the same place as 2009 are CVS Caremark Corp., Lowe’s Cos., Inc., Sears Holdings Corp. and Best Buy Co., Inc. at the seven through ten spots respectively.

Dropping this year is Costco Wholesale Corp. from three to six and The Home Depot, Inc. from four to five.
