Project Yields Improved Cocoa Varieties

Accra, Ghana — More efficient and sustainable cocoa cropping systems are the result of the Cocoa Productivity and Quality Improvement project, according to the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO).

During a workshop held in Accra, the results of the collaborative Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), ICCO and Biodiversity International project were evaluated by 60 participants from research institutes across the world.

It was concluded that the effort had significantly achieved its objectives and the higher-yielding, pest- and disease-resistant cocoa varieties have been released to farmers, according to the ICCO. Further, improved cocoa planting materials are being tested and validated on research fields.
