Kraft Sells Polish Confectionery Unit

Northfield, IL — Kraft Foods, Inc. will sell Cadbury plc’s Wedel-branded chocolate business to Lotte Co., Ltd. for an undisclosed sum. Based in Warsaw, the Wedel business includes a manufacturing facility with about 1,000 employees.

The sale is a result of the European Commission's approval of Kraft’s takeover of Cadbury earlier this year with the stipulation to divest its Polish and Romanian chocolate operations. Kraft will continue to manage the Halls brand throughout Poland and the non-chocolate Wedel brands produced in two factories in Skarbimierz.
