Chips Lead July 4 Snack Choices

Chicago — Potato chips, chewy candy and tortilla chips are among the top 10 most consumed foods on Independence Day, according to The NPD Group, Inc.

NPD finds potato chips are the second-most consumed food on the holiday, behind fresh fruit. Doughnuts, salsa and dips are also among the top ten foods eaten on Independence Day, according to the researcher.

Nearly 20 percent of snacking occasions on July 4th occur during parties and picnics, NPD reports. Further, the researcher finds 20 percent of snack food eating is done away from home, with the top two locations being another house and outdoors.
