C-stores Shopper Preferences Change
Houston, TX — C-store shoppers will alter how, when and why they use the channel as they age, according to The NPD Group, Inc.
Baby Boomers, consumers ages 46 to 64, and young adults ages 18 to 33, are the two largest population segments who shop the channel most frequently, according to an NPD report.
Studying these two groups, NPD finds that value ranks below convenience as young adult consumers enter middle age. Young Boomers in the workforce say convenience is important, while retired Boomers are looking for healthier food options instead, the study finds.
David Portalatin, industry analyst, says it is important to understand how Boomer lifestyles will evolve as they exit the workforce, and how the needs of young adults change as they mature into middle age in order to maximize sales to these groups.
