ConAgra To Shutter Slim Jim Plant
Garner, NC — Shifting production to its Troy, OH, facility by 2011, ConAgra Foods, Inc. now plans to close the North Carolina factory where a June 2009 explosion halted work for months and injured at least 20 people.
More than 190 jobs will be added in Ohio, where nearly 400 are employed now, the company states. Meat snack production lines will also be added to accommodate the Slim Jim brand.
CEO Gary Rodkin says: “This was an incredibly difficult decision, but one that allows us to leverage economies of scale in Troy, which is necessary for the good of our business over the long term.”
