Coupon Redemption Up In 2009
Winston-Salem, NC — Consumers redeemed 3.3 billion consumer packaged goods (CPG) coupons in 2009, up 27 percent from the year prior, according to a study.
Research by Inmar, Inc. shows the rise in coupon use began in October 2008, coinciding with the decline of the U.S. economy, and has continued to post double-digit gains through each of the past five quarters.
Internet coupon distribution is up 92 percent from the previous year and consumer redemption of them has increased more than 360 percent, according to the research.
However, while coupon distribution on the web rises, free standing inserts still account for 89 percent of all coupons delivered and more than half of offers redeemed, the study finds.
