Soy Ingredient To Boost Protein

St. Louis, MO — A high protein soy nugget for use in snacks and nutritional bars has been developed by Solae, LLC.

Intended to add greater nutritional value to snack items, SUPRO Nuggets 570 is 90 percent protein, making it the highest protein-containing soy crisp currently on the market, according to the company.

In taste testing, 73 percent of consumers reported they were “definitely interested” or “very much interested” in purchasing goods made with SUPRO after sampling a chocolate peanut butter concept bar, according to Annette Higgins, director of marketing.

“Confectionery is a great opportunity to look at protein and offer the consumer more of a healthy indulgence that they can feel good about eating,” Higgins says.

She adds that one manufacturer is developing a chocolate bar with the soy crisp, which it plans to reveal at the upcoming Canadian Salon Passion Chocolat & Cie trade show.

Higgins says Solae developed the product based on growing consumer health and wellness interest, and the demand for protein is said to rank as one of the most popular features of nutrition bars.
