Flicks Packs Get Revamped
Fresno, CA — Flicks, a chocolate-flavored west coast item, is being repackaged for national distribution.
Starting in January, the candy will come in plastic bags for freshness, tamper evidence and improved shelf life. The bags will be inserted into foiled cardboard tubes, according to Jim Tjerrild, President and CEO of Flicks Candy Co.
As the company gains national distribution in stores such as Cost Plus World Market and Bed, Bath and Beyond Inc., Tjerrild says Flicks is increasing production and experimenting with new flavors. He recently acquired a machine that runs six times faster than the original equipment used to make the candy.
The discs pack in 1.3-ounce tubes in a variety of colors, have a SRP range of $1.29 to $1.49 and ship 16 12-ct counter displays per case.
Tjerrild says he revived the product, which was dropped by the Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. in 1989. Since reintroducing the brand, he claims sales have increased exponentially and market share continues to grow.
In addition, Tjerrild says the company plans to debut Flicks Nonpareils in January. The nonpareils will be available in milk and dark flavors and will feature packaging similar to the original product’s packs.
